Ankle-Brachial Index

The ankle-brachial index test is a quick non-invasive way to check for peripheral artery disease (PAD). Peripheral artery disease is a common circulatory problem in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to your limbs.

Your doctor might recommend an ankle-brachial index test if you have leg pain while walking or risk factors for PAD, such as:

  1. History of tobacco use
  2. Diabetes
  3. High blood pressure
  4. High cholesterol
  5. Restricted blood flow (atherosclerosis) in other parts of your body
